Dick Vermeil: Athletes deserve equal right to workers comp

California is home to three NFL teams and hundreds of professional athletes. They provide an enormous economic benefit.

I once worked with an athlete who was blackballed from baseball because he filed a workman's comp claim against a minor league team. They wouldn't pay for his shoulder rehab so he files a claim. He was never able to find his way back when healthy. He was a 6'7" lefty. OK it would have helped if he could hit 90 on a speed gun instead of 89. But you would think he'd get a chance. Vermeil is right especially since the NFL can just release players, they need protection.
